Celtiberian/Lusitanian Goddess Nabia/Navia

The goddess resides in the waters. There are rivers and other sites of water where her name or similar names can be found in the Iberian Peninsula: Navea River ( in Orense), Navia River (in Lugo and Asturias), Navia Fountain (in Luarca) and Lagoons of Navianos (in Zamora). Amongst the Celts, the waters were the path to the Otherworld which Nabia translates to La Barquera (The Boatgirl, literally translated). She was the one in charge of taking the souls of the dead ones to the Otherworld. She also had the attributes of fertility and vegetation. The Goddess Nabia is married to the God Coronus.

Imbolc, or Oimealg marks the midpoint of the dark half of the year. The fire that Brigid first kindled at Yule burns bright in the swollen bellies of pregnant herd animals and rivers of milk begin to flow in swollen teats and udders. Agricultural tools are consecrated for the year ahead, household fires are put out and relit, and the fires of the smithy are blessed by a woman acting on Brigid's behalf.
Brigid's crosses are woven of wheat and given as protective charms for the home. Brigid's snake emerges from the womb of the Earth Mother to test the weather.

Special cakes are baked for the occasion, and a feast and a dance are held for all. The older women of the community gather "bride's beds", or cradles for the corn dollies to sleep in, and magic wands for the dolls to hold. The morning after the feast, everyone examines the ashes of the hearth to see if a magic wand has left marks. If so, it is a good omen for the following year.

Goddess Brigid, we rejoice today as this is a special day.
Powerful three-faced goddess,
May you bless us with your fire and with your inspiration,
O Exalted One, wise goddess of healing, poetry and craftsmanship,
Touch us gently in our hearts this Imbolc.
You inspire us to heal and to become better people with poetry and the crafts.
You’ve inspired me to see the positives in negatives in life, no matter how cold and dark is outside.
Shining One, may this beginning of spring blossom with good things.

The Aryan Seer
Hail Brigid!

A postcard to mark the centenary of Cumann na mBan , displaying a mural which were unveiled in the Sinn Fein office in Belfast City Hall in 2014.

All honour to Óglaigh na hÉireann,
All praise to the men of our race,
who,in days of betrayal and slavery,
Saved Eire from shame and disgrace.
But do not forget in your praising,
Of them and the deeds they have done,
Their loyal and true-hearted comrades,
The soldiers of Cumann na mBan!
"If I were not for the ladies in Ireland I contend that we could not have established the Gaelic League. I had rather have the girls of the country behind me in this movement than the young men, for if I have the girls the men will follow in their train"

Willie Deasy, left, was one of six young I.R.A. members killed on a farm in 1921.

Cruxy O’Connor, Mr. Deasy’s neighbor, had given their whereabouts to the police.
