A few things are hard to understand. Many who were scoring 90+ according to various answer keys could not make it. This suggests either the cutoff is on the higher side or UPSC's answer key has different answers.

Question - While celebrating 75 years of the Indian Constitution there is discussion on "the woman in nine yard of saree who triggered First Amendment to the Constitution." Elucidate the case.

Reference -
Champakam Dorairajan, a Brahmin woman from Madras, played an important role in India’s constitutional history. She filed a case against caste-based reservations in education. The case was called State of Madras v. Champakam Dorairajan (1951). The Supreme Court said the reservation policy at that time was against the right to equality.

As a result, the government made the First Amendment to the Constitution. This added Article 15(4), which allowed special help (affirmative action) for socially and educationally backward classes.

This was the first time the Supreme Court cancelled a law because it went against fundamental rights. The case started big discussions in India about merit, equality, and reservations.
