In My Soul

In
my soul
there is a temple, a shrine, a mosque, a church
where I kneel.

Prayer should bring us to an altar where no walls or names exist.

Is there not a region of love where the sovereignty is
illumined nothing,

where ecstasy gets poured into itself
and becomes
lost,

where the wing is fully alive
but has no mind or
body?

In
my soul
there is a temple, a shrine, a mosque,
a church

that dissolve, that
dissolve in

God.

Gold is indifferent to what shape it may take as an ornament. If golden bangles are broken, their shape changes, but the gold doesn't care. It can take another form, so why should it worry? It can take the form of a dog, or of God. It is unconcerned with the form. In the same way, be indifferent to anything that has a form.

- Sri Ranjit Maharaj

CONVERSATIONS WITH ANNAMALAI SWAMI

Q: Is it true that to realize the Self I should constantly hold on to the one who is searching? Should I always be aware of this person who is seeking the Self?

AS: You need not hold on to the person who is searching. If you see that the one who is searching is the same as the one whose mind is wandering; if you see that both are false, you are already awakened. When you light a lamp, darkness ceases to exist. When you become aware of yourself as the Self, the darkness of ‘other than Self’ disappears.

As the evening unfolds, I hope you will choose to find a few minutes alone to think about all that has happened today. There is of course, great wisdom in learning lessons from our past experiences, but a much deeper wisdom in gently letting go of things that have bruised us and hanging on only to those things that have made us smile.

"Good company is one of the best medicines. If you have consciousness of failure, associate with those who have the consciousness of success."

❝The company you keep is important. If you leave your coat in a room where people are smoking, pretty soon it will smell of smoke. If you leave it outside in the garden, later on, when you bring it indoors, it will carry with it the fragrance of fresh air and flowers."

“Such is the case with the mind. Your garment of thoughts absorbs the vibrations of those with whom you mix. If you mingle with pessimists, in time you will become a pessimist. And if you mingle with cheerful, happy people, you yourself will develop a cheerful, happy nature."

“Whether one becomes a saint or a sinner is to a great extent determined by the company he keeps.❞

Hamsa, the Swan

Oh, Hamsa! Tell me your ancient tale.
From what land did you journey,
To what shore do you fly?
Where do you sleep and what do you seek?

Oh, Hamsa! Awake, arise, and follow me!
There is a land where sorrow and doubt hold no sway,
Where the terror of death does not reign.

There, the woods are floored with the flowers of spring,
And the fragrance, “So’ aham”,
“He am I”, floats on the breeze.

There, the bee of the heart drowns in nectar,
And knows no other joy.

— Kabir Sahib

I love you when you;

bow in your mosque,
kneel in your temple,
pray in your church.

For you and I
are of one religion,

and it is the Spirit.
