ISIS was clandestinely supported by the US, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar to destabilize the Assad regime during the Syrian civil war. Some of this was revealed by Wikileaks in 2014…
We must also consider that key details of other major actions in these conflicts, such as the sabotage of Nordstream and the October 7th attack, were lied about or covered up (as is typical during any major war).
Given the tendency of states to conduct covert operations during wars and the historic relationship between ISIS and Western powers, the attribution of this latest attack to an “ISIS remnant” is dubious.
