اگرچه گاهی می ‎توانید which و what را به جای هم به کار ببرید، در شرایطی تنها به کار بردن یکی از آن‌ها درست است.

What و which

هردو ضمایر پرسشی هستند. یعنی هردوی آن‎ها بیانگر چیزی هستند که گوینده هنوز از آن اطلاعی ندارد.
از این کلمات برای پرسش درمورد اشیاء، کیفیت‎ و مکان‌ها استفاده می‎کنیم اما برای پرسش درمورد افراد به کار نمی‎روند. برای پرسش درمورد افراد معمولا از کلمه who استفاده می‌شود.

در صورت وجود احتمالات زیاد به کار می‌رود
