Sadhguru: Yoga does not mean standing on your head, twisting your body or holding your breath. Among the Yoga Sutras, which form the bedrock of today’s Yoga, only one sutra is dedicated to asanas. All Patanjali said was “Sthiram sukham asanam” – a posture which is comfortable and firm, that is your asana. It is a very preparatory step, but unfortunately, today asanas are being propagated as the whole of Yoga.
Yoga means to know the union of life. When you experience everything as a part of yourself, you are in Yoga.
Experientially there are only four realities for you – your body, mind, emotion and the energy which makes all this happen. It is only from these four that you can start. For these four dimensions we have four types of Yogas. If you use your intelligence and try to reach your ultimate nature we call this Gnana Yoga. If you use your emotion, we call this Bhakti Yoga, the Yoga of devotion. If you use your physical body or action, we call this Karma Yoga. If you transform your inner energies to reach your ultimate nature we call this Kriya Yoga.
These are the only four ways you can work with yourself. In one person the heart may be dominant, in another person the head may be dominant, in yet another person the hands may be dominant, but everyone is a combination of these four, so you need a process that is a combination of these four. And only if it is mixed in the right proportion for you, it works best. What we give for another person may not work well for you. That is why on the spiritual path there is so much stress on a live Guru. He mixes the right cocktail for you, otherwise there is no punch.

Sadhguru:Most lingas are made of stones, which need some kind of fatty or oily substance to retain their integrity. This is why milk or ghee is offered to lingas periodically so that they do not crack or become brittle. Applying ghee or milk also ensures that the linga remains wet, which enhances people’s receptivity to its energies. If one pours water, the linga remains wet for a few minutes and then dries up. But if one pours milk, the linga stays wet for much longer because the fat enters the pores in the stone. Linga is reverberating in a specific manner. Facilitating this is an important part of maintaining it.
