Biography of Tuan Guru Hj Ismail bin Omar Sepanjang
Bitrh, Family and Educations.

His name is Wan Ismail bin Wan Omar or mostly known as Baba Ismail Sepanjang which is a name addressed for a Tuan Guru.

He was born in Kampung Dusun Panjang which is located in the province of Panaree; 20 km from the town of Fatoni. He is the sole male from 3 siblings.

He got his early education from Sekolah Rendah Kampung Dusun Panjang (primary shcool) and afterwards went to the nearby pondok (200 meter) at the age of 14 to study under Almarhum Tuan Guru Hj Abdul Latiff  (Baba Teh).

When he was 21, Baba Ismail Sepanjang went to Pondok Almarhum Haji Abdul Qader Sekam (Tok Der Sekam) which is popular in 'ilmu tauhid' to study until he was 30 years old. There, he did not only become 'kepala telaah' (senior who represent the teacher) but he also recieves invitations to teach nearby communities including two places which he is still teaching until today. These so-called places Masjid Jamek Jala (almost 32 years) and Masjid Jamek Fatoni (almost 30 years).

He got married at the age of 29 with Hajjah Sabariah binti Almarhum Tuan Guru Hj Abdul Aziz (Kitab Misbahul Munir) and has been gifted with 5 children (2 sons and 3 daughters).

At the age of 31, he went to Makkah and stays there for 7 months.

1993, he comes back from Makkah, Baba Ismail Sepanjang opens a pondok centre of study in Kampung Kubang Ikan, Narathiwat which is named as Pondok Darul Muhajirin. In the meantime, he also travels to and fro Kelantan accepting teaching invitations around Kota Bharu.

1998, his pondok was moved to his hometown in Kampung Dusun Panjang and stays there until today. His daily activities is often filled with teaching religious studies for free to students from many places in and out country like Cambodia ana Malaysia. Until today, there are about 500 male students and 200 female students studying at his pondok.

Studies in his pondok is all-year long except for holiday on 15 Syaaban until 15 Syawal (2 months), Raya Haji (a week) and the month of Rabiul Awwal (a month).

Kuliah Baba (his teaching) is often played by local radio. Besides teaching, Baba Ismail Sepanjang fills his time with studying and authoring kitab (religious books).

Some of the kitab that he authored are Mizan Azzarari, Mawaqilfil Marjan, Syarah Hikam, Addurratussaniah and Syarah Burdah.

Baba Ismail Sepanjang is also a member of Thailand Fatwa Organisation.

He also awarded the stature Royal Doctor of Thailand and High Award by Governor of Pattani.
